Support to experience first-hand construction essentials 

Having first-hand experience is invaluable; it will arm you with essential transferable skills that will empower you to succeed. 

Your cadetship will be customised to suit your interests, strengths, and future aspirations.  
Degnan assist to create a personalised pathway for you to learn and understand through on-the-job experiences through being involved in the day-to-day operations, conversations and task allocations. 
You will integrate your tertiary learnings with time spent on projects, putting into action all your hard-earned knowledge. 

You will be supported through every step and mentored to ensure successes and goals are achieved. 

During your time, you will develop an understanding of all elements essential in successfully delivering challenging and rewarding projects, with a clear picture of your future pathway. 

Rotation, for variety and exposure 

Degnan’s Cadet program allows you to experience various areas of the business through a rotation system, planned to learn and experience as many areas as possible.  

An example of a typical rotation is shown below: 

  1. Onsite engineering resource - six months on one or multiple sites
    • Construction activities 
    • Quality control 
    • Construction detailing 
    • Setting out 
    • Safety requirements 
    • Environmental requirements
  2. Estimating department - Six months 
    • Document control 
    • Tender packaging 
    • Quantity and material take-offs 
    • Rates applications 
    • Subcontractor engagement 
  3. Project team - Twelve months - Experiencing the various phases of design, planning, construction, testing and commissioning. 
    • Document preparation and management 
    • Activities planning
    • Works scheduling
    • Data gathering for reporting
    • Programming 

What’s next?  

Based on your application, we will assess your suitability for the opportunities and projects we have available.  

The next step will be a phone interview, followed by another interview with a member of our Leadership Team or a Key Team Member; ideally, this will be a face-to-face interview, but a virtual option will be available also. 

In these interviews, you can expect to discuss your interests, your career goals and past milestones to achieve these, your current and past studies, your work experience and achievements.  

If you are successful, we will take the next step to formally offering you a Cadetship and an employment contract.
