At GHD, we donโ€™t just believe in the power of commitment, we live and breathe it every day.

If you want to start a career with impact, whether solving everyday problems through to tackling some of the great challenges our clients and communities face, youโ€™ll find that here.  Thatโ€™s why we pledge to empower all our people to make a positive impact and ensure youโ€™re provided the necessary training and experiences to make those aspirations a reality.

We know community impact is important to our staff.  Our GHD in the Community program partners with not-for-profit organisations to provide opportunities to work on pro-bono projects, volunteering and fundraising for philanthropic and humanitarian causes.  As a business we also funnel some of our profits into the GHD Foundation, a registered charity that works to address disadvantage and inequality in children accessing STEAM education in our countries of operation.

What does being a Graduate mean for you?

Outside of the technical development youโ€™ll gain working within your team, youโ€™ll also join GHDโ€™s two year Graduate Development Program. The Graduate Program will connect you peers across Australia, New Zealand, the broader Asia Pacific region and the Middle East.

We offer a structured approach to promotions and salary reviews over your first two years and a culture that is friendly, inclusive and not built on hierarchy.

Want to know more about life as a Consultant in GHD?

GHD, in partnership with The Forage, a global provider of job simulations, have developed a self-paced Virtual Internship where youโ€™ll start to explore what a career in our Engineering teams looks like.  Youโ€™ll hear from one of the Leaders in our Rail team whoโ€™ll outline some of the topics we cover, as well as talking you through a bit more of what we do in GHD.

The Virtual Internship should only take you 3-4 hours to complete   Weโ€™re not asking you to undertake complex calculations, but rather understand some of the challenge we work with on a day to day basis.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for Engineers & Scientists of all types, Architects, Planners, Project Managers and Arts & Communications students to join our program in 2025. We may also have some mid-year starting positions as well for those of you finishing in June this year!

To make selecting where to start your career easier, we'll ask you about your preferences through our application process by listing each team and the degrees they typically recruit from.

What does the rest of GHDโ€™s process look like?

Once we receive your application, it will be reviewed by one of our Talent Acquisition team members who manage each of our regions. If your application is shortlisted, we will get in touch with you for a Video Interview, where youโ€™ll get the chance to introduce yourself and make another positive impression on both our TA team and hiring managers.

If youโ€™re successful at our Video Interview stage and are invited for an interview, our team will contact you via email, text or phone to get that scheduled in.  Interviews will either be face to face in our office, or via MS Teams if virtual.  Prior to our interview weโ€™ll also ask you to go through some online testing through one of our providers, Saville.

If the interview goes well, weโ€™ll be in contact to discuss an offer, where weโ€™ll go through salary, start date and our background checks.

In our application process, we want to be as inclusive as possible to ensure everyone has an equitable chance of proceeding through.  If you identify as someone who is neurodiverse, or who has a disability and may require changes to any of the processes outlined above, please respond to the question at the start of our process and weโ€™ll be in touch where appropriate.

How do you apply?

  1. Select the "Apply" button
  2. Please allow up to 10 minutes to complete the questions.
  3. Upload a copy of your updated cover letter, CV and academic transcript/s.

If youโ€™re successful through our recruitment process, your full-time position will start in February 2025. There may also be ongoing opportunities for casual work throughout your final year of studies.

Interested? Apply now.

Pros and cons of working at GHD New Zealand

Pros

  • The support from my team and my higher-ups makes me con๏ฌdent in getting things wrong but then trying again with support and doing better

  • I think people are really understanding of Graduates having virtually no corporate experience. They are happy to answer questions and give you time to learn.

  • There are ample opportunities to develop a range of technical skills and workplace development skills. The people are incredible to work with who embody the principles of kotahitanga (unity), awhinatanga (kindness) and manaakitanga (support). Flexible work hours and working locations to accommodate my needs as a single mother who is also studying. You can be yourself and express/share the things you are passionate about and value.

  • The coworkers are lovely to be around and interact with, I feel appreciated and urged to learn new things which is good. The o๏ฌƒce location supports cycling and is close to town which is a bonus.

  • Supportive team, understanding and relaxed environment. Going home within reasonable hours. Opportunities to work in and visit other o๏ฌƒces.

Cons

    • Studying a creative degree to then head to a creative role in a corporate environment as a newbie, it's not really what you expect. Training is su๏ฌƒcient here, however exploring and developing your creativity here is a bit stunted. You will need to go outside to fulfil your creative needs

    • Lack of development in cultural capability but they are working on it which is encouraging.

    • Too many project opportunities so couldn't ๏ฌgured out which one to prioritise

    • Larger company means you don't know everyone or everything that's going on, and can get lost in the crowd a bit

    • The work can be not very engaging at times
