Our designed telecommunication networks ensure uninterrupted communication between our field equipment and the Network Control Centre, fostering reliable electricity supply and rapid response to any arising issues.

The coolest thing about my job is putting your theoretical skills into practice. Even as a graduate, I have the opportunity to work on significant projects which are in some way connected to different disciplines.

Western Power is a utility company at the end of the day, and there are many opportunities to make a career here working in non-engineering disciplines as well. Experience and passion count for a lot.

I can lead my projects and tackle them in my own way, and I always have guidance and support from my team members. The flexible start and finish times and the supportive team environment are also other perks of working with Western Power.

It is particularly rewarding to see how a design goes from an idea on a piece of paper.

I get provided with training in a range of disciplines within different safety areas. 

I can choose what problems to work on and how to undertake solving them on a day to day basis.

The beauty of my role is that much of the work I undertake is data and research-driven.

I love the industry my job is involved with. Getting electricity from the generators to all consumers whether in the central business district, or 400km south in Albany, Western Power is there to keep the lights on for everyone, all the time.

Tasks I enjoy are presentations, running workshops and gathering data.

I am mainly involved in the short-medium term designs at our zone substations.

I design how a customer can connect to the grid and for example if that customer’s dream was to always open their own bakery, I can help to achieve that person’s dream.
